Actually, this post has nothing to do with America specifically. You see, I grew up watching Americas Funniest Home Videos and I always loved seeing what the next Assignment America was going to be at the end of each show. A topic or theme, tossed out to the masses, with the sole purpose of bringing in material for viewers to enjoy.
Sometimes as photographers, I think we get so caught up in “our style” or what “we” do, that we forget there is an endless world of possibility out there. Or, we go through funks and claim there is nothing to shoot or we feel our work is stagnate and feel unmotivated.
I know this has happened to me from time to time. Sometimes I think it would be great to be given an assignment of what to shoot. Something I wouldn’t normally seek out myself. Something to push me or make me look at things around me a little different.
Well that’s what we are going to do. We will give out simple assignments each month that are open for interpretation. Our goal is to publish these assignments each Wednesday, so cut off for each weeks assignment will be the Sunday night before that weeks post.
Please send your scanned image to email@example.com with the assignment name as the subject line.
All images must be on some form of instant film. We encourage you to go out and shoot, but if you have already have an image that fits a topic, you are welcome to submit it.
For example, first post is April 10th. Need submissions by Sunday April 7th.
10th – Reflection
17th – Past
24th – Stickers
1st – Up Close
8th – Whiskers
15th – Stained
22nd – Vice
29th – Found
This should get us going and we will put a section on the blog for this project.
